Every year, Gananda Dollars for Scholars organizes several fundraisers to generate scholarship funds. The "phone-a-thon," the largest fundraiser, distributed $6000 to 16 graduating seniors this year.
Winners of the Phone-a-thon Awards are recognized for their consistent demonstration of high personal and academic standards throughout his or her high school career. These same students will receive an additional amount as college sophomores through the multi-year Scholarships Plus initiative when they confirm both the successful completion of their first year of college and the registration for the second.
The following 16 graduates of 2012, who received Phone-a-thon Awards as college freshman, will receive $3200 as sophomores through Scholarship Plus: Kristy Allen, Jacob Carder, Sydney Doway, Emily Eddy, Tiffany Gregoire, Carissa Kelly, Taylor Maiorana, Amanda Moore, Alexandra Parrinello, Parastou Ranjbar, Evan Schwind, Jessica Suchan, Alexis Tubiolo, Devin Vogt, Kelly Weill and Allie York.
10 Super Senior Volunteers were also recognized for their outstanding record of volunteering to help others where they see the need. Going well beyond GDFS' minimal requirements of 20 hours, the following students reported between 200 and over 800 hours during their high school years. Sideny Cannon-Bailey, Emily Donnan, Lauren Friedl, Abbey Hoteling, Taylor Lioy, Jessica McDowell, Haley Smith, and Tristan Stoner. Each of them received a GDFS signed collectible Gananda Community poster to take to college.
